Statkraft signs two long-term PPAs with Better Energy in Poland
Two 10-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) from two new solar parks will supply Statkraft with 64 GWh of renewable energy annually and bring new renewable energy into the Polish grid.
Statkraft has entered into two 10-year PPAs with Better Energy for renewable energy from the Chociwel and Wągrowiec solar parks in Poland. The new contracts secure an annual offtake of 64 GWh of renewable electricity. Now fully grid-connected, the two parks have the combined capacity to generate over 90 GWh per year – enough to meet the annual energy needs of approximately 42,000 households in Poland.
Statkraft first signed a PPA with Better Energy in 2021 for the Resko solar park. Since then, additional agreements have been signed for five more sites in Poland, allowing Statkraft to offtake a total of 210 GWh of renewable energy annually.
“With our Resko agreement in 2021, then the first of its kind in Poland, we laid a strong foundation for our continued partnership with Better Energy. We are proud to continue setting new standards in our cooperation by adding two more PPAs, bringing the total volume up to an impressive 210 GWh per year. To support the green transition in Poland, long-term partnerships such as ours are central,” says Kornel Koronowski, Head of Origination Poland in Statkraft.
“Statkraft’s commitment to long-term PPAs helps make renewable energy a reliable part of Poland’s energy system. These agreements help developers and producers deliver new renewable energy to the market. More renewable energy on the market will support businesses who are looking to decarbonise their operations through the procurement of renewable energy, while contributing to the country’s efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels,” says Mikkel Thorup, Director of PPAs at Better Energy.
“By entering into agreements like these, we are supporting the broader development and integration of renewables in Poland.”
Better Energy PPAs provide an opportunity to lock in affordable renewable electricity in the long term, manage energy costs, reduce emissions and demonstrate climate action.
