Faerch: Procuring renewable energy for manufacturing and recycling facilities across markets

With manufacturing and recycling facilities across Northern Europe, Faerch needed a reliable and cost-effective supply of energy. After choosing a Better Energy Power Purchase Agreement in Poland, it determined that its Finnish operations would also benefit from a PPA.

Expanding renewable energy solutions across markets

Faerch, a leading European supplier of circular food packaging solutions, has a strong commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. Operating state-of-the-art production and recycling facilities across Europe, Faerch’s goal is to power all of its sites with renewable energy.

To achieve this, Faerch needed reliable green energy across multiple markets and identified Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) as a key strategy. After successfully securing green energy for its operations in Poland, Faerch sought to replicate this approach to make its Finnish operations more sustainable.

However, with corporate PPAs from solar parks being a new practice in Finland, the company turned to a trusted partner.

Leveraging a trusted partnership to provide green energy for Finnish operations

Building on its successful partnership with Better Energy in Poland, Faerch trusted the provider to expand its renewable energy strategy into Finland. Through a new PPA with Better Energy, Faerch is now set to power its Finnish operations with green energy, which it offtakes from a solar park near Hankoniemi in southern Finland.

This park, expected to generate 38 GWh annually—enough to meet the electricity needs of over 2,000 Finnish households—will provide Faerch with 70% of its Finnish energy consumption.

Faerch’s power purchase in Finland is Better Energy’s first PPA in the country, marking a milestone in the country.

The PPA with Better Energy secures a reliable source of renewable energy for Faerch's Finnish operations and contributes additional green energy to the Finnish grid, supporting the country’s renewable energy transition.

Impact of partnership

  • The PPAs provide the foundation for Faerch to reach its sustainability targets in Poland and Finland.

  • Faerch’s power purchase in Poland contributes to two solar parks, Polanów and Postomino, which are expected to produce around 30 GWh each of renewable energy annually.

  • The expansion of the two companies partnership resulted in Better Energy’s first PPA in Finland.

“We chose a Power Purchase Agreement to ensure Faerch will have access to a consistent and renewable power supply, reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to the energy transition. Better Energy’s ability to provide affordable green energy in Poland made it a natural choice to extend our collaboration to Finland.”

Why partner with Better Energy?

  • Add green electricity to your company’s energy mix with competitively priced energy produced without subsidies.

  • Contribute to a Better Energy renewable energy park that positively impacts surrounding communities and nature through your power purchase.

  • Transition to zero-emissions electricity regardless of the size of your company’s electricity consumption.

  • Explore opportunities to bring renewable energy production closer to your consumption and deliver long-lasting value to the region.

  • Partner with an experienced renewable energy producer and electricity supplier trusted by companies across Northern Europe.

Start learning about PPAs

  • A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) allows your business to purchase green electricity at a fixed price and volume over an extended period.

Your power purchase contributes to establishing a new renewable energy park that positively impacts the surrounding community and nature.

  • When you sign a PPA, you purchase green electricity from a Better Energy renewable energy park. Each MWh your company purchases is documented through Gaurantees of Origin (GoO).

This is applicable to your market-based scope 2 reporting in line with GHG protocol and CSRD.

  • PPAs are typically long-term agreements lasting 5 to 10 years. The advanced demand for renewable energy enables us to secure project financing to build the solar park.

  • We believe all businesses should be able to buy green.

Throughout dialogues, we’ll explore different offtake volumes that make sense for your business, and you will have full control over how much of your electricity consumption you want to cover through the PPA.

  • All you have to do to get started is get in touch with us! We’ll start by looking at your energy consumption and operations to understand your business’s needs.

This allows us to propose a PPA solution and renewable energy park suited to your business.

The length of the dialogues can vary, but we’re committed to making sure you have the information you need to make an informed decision.
